Making Contemporary Western Australia: A Critical Review HUMAM101

This cross-school interdisciplinary collaboration will introduce learners to a series of historical figures who were instrumental in shaping the course of contemporary (Western) Australian society. Starting with the story of Menang Noongar Mokare, the first cross-cultural interpreter and chief negotiator with his country's invaders, the unit will offer students a multitude of paths to negotiate their way through history in a modularised fashion. Students can choose from a number of persons, each introduced by a subject matter expert utilising interactive multimedia. Personalities include Edith Cowan, Aunty Theresa Walley, Fiona Stanley and many more. Upon completion of five modules, student will have a good understanding of the influence and confluence of individuals and their various contributions that shaped the past and have a bearing on the future. Anyone with an interest in history, gender studies, cultural studies, translation and interpreting, creative writing as well as agricultural history, environmental history and mining history. HUMAM101 Making Contemporary Western Australia: A Critical Review explores the lives and legacies of seminal figures for Western Australia's history of the past 200 years.

 

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, you'll receive:

Delivery mode

Online. Only the entry point (Mokare's role) and the capstone module are pre-determined and compulsory. The choice of modules in between are open to the students.

How does it work?

Starting with Menang Noongar Mokare, the micro-credential will offer a multitude of paths to negotiate history in a modularised fashion. Students can choose from a number of persons, each introduced by a subject matter expert utilising interactive multimedia.  This course is fully online with quizzes, a presentation, and a research paper for assessment.
